Why Unplugging From Technology Is Important

Technology is essential for communication. With technology, you can send and receive calls, send or receive mails, or know what is happening in the world through different communication devices. However, using your communication devices for many hours per day can lead to addiction. That is why you need to reduce the number of hours you use your communication devices daily or unplug from technology. Unplugging from technology has the following advantages.

It improves your efficiency

Texting your friends as you work or replying to your emails when taking your meals might show how good you are at multitasking. Even if you are good at that, your brain could be less efficient if that continues. According to the study, using your phone every time is just like the addiction that drug abusers and sex addicts go through. And, stopping your behavior might be just as tricky as the addicts go through when they want to quit their behavior. The journey to overcoming your phone addiction might be challenging. You can start by leaving your phone in another room when working or eating. That way, you will offer undivided attention to a particular task at a time.

It might bring out your creative character

Regardless of how helpful your electric devices are, they might limit your creativity when you use them over some time. A few hours without your electrical devices daily might spark some creativity; you would have never known if you always use your electrical appliances. And you can start by going to work without your laptop or staying phoneless for several hours a day. That would help you develop creative ways of solving different problems that you could not have come up with if you were using your electronic devices.

It improves your relationship with those close to you

Most of your communication is through body language. When you use your hands or face to send out your message, those close to you get the message better than when you use electronic devices. Depending on the device you use, part of the message you want to pass might get lost, and those you are giving the message might misunderstand what you wanted to say. So, if you want to pass a message more effectively, do it in person instead of sending numerous messages, emails, or phone calls that might not convey the exact message you wanted to pass.

It will improve your attention span

Regardless of how busy you are at work, if you are addicted to communication devices, you will be taking more than six hours of your working time reading and replying to online comments. That is time you could have spent on work or study. To stop this habit, set restrictions on not using your communication devices when working or attending to another important project. Only use them when answering job-related emails or when you are researching a helpful topic.

Electrical and communication devices are essential for our daily lives. However, overusing them has adverse effects on our life. That is why you should consider unplugging from technology if you spend a lot of time with your communication devices daily. That will enable you to build a better relationship with those you communicate with physically, it will improve your creativity, and you will be more efficient in your work.
