Here’s How Often You Should Restart Your Smartphone And Other Devices

Most of us have a smartphone on hand throughout the day. In fact, it doesn’t seem right to not have a phone nowadays! Not only that, but we are often on our tablets, laptops, and other smart devices off and on during the day. You may go to work on your laptop with your phone nearby, all while wearing a smartwatch on your wrist. Unfortunately, our devices need a break sometimes! We don’t often give our devices a chance to take a break by turning them off and rebooting them. Read on to find out how often you should restart your smart device and why it can help.

Computer

Most users choose the sleep mode when shutting their computer or laptop down. After all, we want it to wake up quickly when we are ready to get back on! But experts say your laptop or desktop should be shut down completely once a week or more. Shutting it down reduces the cache from all of the apps that are continuously running in the background. Your computer will operate faster if you take the time to shut down and restart once a week.

Smartphone

Do you only restart your smartphone when something seems to be wrong? If you do, you aren’t alone. However, experts all agree that our smartphones should be restarted once a week or more. This will empty out the memory in the phone, take care of any glitches, and close out programs that aren’t running smoothly. Consider restarting your phone when you set it down to go to bed at night.

Tablet

Your tablet should also be restarted once a week or more, according to experts. This will help your tablet retain memory and correct any app crashes. It also helps to prolong the life of the battery.

Smartwatch

If you own a smartwatch, you know just how much it can do. Sure, a watch used to just tell time. Now your watch can keep track of your fitness goals, answer texts, and locate the nearest coffee shop. However, you don’t have to worry about restarting your smartwatch as much as your smartphone. Since they don’t have the same complicated programs always on in the background, you can get away with restarting it every couple of weeks.

Smart TV

Our television sets today have a much harder job than the sets of yesterday. They may seem to be working just fine, but your smart TV needs a break just as much as any other device. Once a month, shut down and restart your television set to clean it up. This will help with any unresponsive services or sign-in issues you may be having. Your TV will start up fresh and ready to go.

Router

A router is meant to be on all day. However, they should be rebooted once in a while, especially if your internet speeds have slowed down. Experts say to restart the router in your home every couple of months. It can also prevent your router from being hacked.
